Even though Big Sean and the Sean Anderson Foundation’s Executive Director, Myra Anderson, made an appearance in Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day Parade today, both this week and year have been a series of special moments, highlighted by generosity and acts of kindness; with that, we want to take time this holiday season, to look back at some of those moments this year, with abundant gratitude!
THANK YOU TO THOMAS FALCONE & JIMMY GOLDFINGERS FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHS
A homecoming for Big Sean, this week kicked off his annual spirited ‘week of giving back’, as he presented the Detroit PAL (Police Athletic League) with a $25,000 check on Monday. Not one to slow down, Tuesday, along with members and friends of the Sean Anderson Foundation, Big Sean returned as a community all-star, participating in Terrance Wheelers Thanksgiving All-star Giveback. An event now in it’s 19th year, collectively, we were able to distribute over 5,000 turkeys and meal trimmings to Detroit families in need. Immediately following, Big Sean stopped by the Ford Resource and Engagement Center, to deliver free new PUMA shoes to a classroom of students!
This past week provided even more joy and hope to the residents of Detroit, and know that these activities really came on the heels of a landmark year.
We kicked off the year sharing the news that Big Sean and Myra Anderson had been invited to join the Motown Museum’s National Legacy Council and $50 million expansion project! This past January also saw the expansive launch our signature program, Mogul Prep, to classrooms across the country. From partnerships with behemoth brands like the BET Experience all the way to billionaire investor Dan Gilbert of Quicken Loans sitting down for our Mogul to Mogul event in Detroit, thousands of students have now been exposed to the vast opportunities and careers in entertainment that are possible through utilizing the information they are actively learning in their classrooms. We are deeply humbled by the warmth that this program continues to receive, and we look forward to growing this initiative over the years to come.
In the middle of launching his latest album, iDecided, while on a national tour, Big Sean was honored at a Mogul Prep Detroit event with Detroit’s Key to the City, presented by Detroit’s Hon. Mayor Mike Duggan! This was a career highlight for both Big Sean and the Anderson Family, as it marks a significant milestone in their journey as a Detroit family determined to make their community and city a better place. Also this year, in large thanks to the contributions from people like you, our foundation was able to renew financial support to our partners at Project Knapsack and Wayne State University! These programs are vital in the development and success of our brightest students in Detroit, with Project Knapsack fostering cultural awareness at Bates Academy and Wayne State University’s H.I.G.H. Program providing financial assistance to hard-working students facing homelessness; moreover, Project Knapsack recognized Big Sean and Myra Anderson, for their philanthropic efforts and contributions, at a beautiful award ceremony that took place in August. At this time, we also want to thank our expansive online community who continues to make sure that the good work and news coming from this foundation and Detroit gets heard! With your ongoing encouragement and voices, we will continue to work together to move education forward!
We thank you, for such a special 2017, and know that we are already well into planning our 2018 efforts!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING & HOLIDAYS,
from the SEAN ANDERSON FOUNDATION!
